How to Fill out Postcards

It wasn’t so long ago that phones didn’t travel with us the way they do today. They stayed behind at home and in the office. And now people are forgetting how they were used.

Case in point: Recall the scene in the 2009 movie Aliens in the Attic where the kids have no idea how to use the rotary phone.

Well, people are now also using the ability to write letters, notes, even sign their name. Writing by hand has become a chore. In some places it is no longer taught in school.

Take blank postcards, for example. They have become a conundrum for some people. So much so, it seems, that we can now turn to a website for assistance with this – what I believe is a – joyful activity. Otherwise why would a site like “How to Fill out Postcards” exist?

It lists the most basic considerations – like, for example, step number 2: “Have the address of who you’re going to send the postcard to. Think about what you’re going to write.”

For those who have mailed postcards during their travels, the simplicity of the step-by-step format seems laughable. But it is clearly worded and serves a purpose. If it opens a few people’s minds to the wonders of this alternate form of communication and visual art, then laughable it is not.
